Battery Pack Simulation and Testing Engineer

Zparq, a leading provider of marine drivetrains, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lithium Battery Pack Simulation and Testing Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting simulations and performing comprehensive testing on lithium battery packs to ensure their safety, performance, and reliability.
Responsibilities:
1. Design and execute simulations using advanced software tools to model and analyze the behavior of lithium battery packs under various operating conditions.
2. Develop and implement test plans to evaluate the performance, efficiency, and longevity of lithium battery packs.
3. Perform electrical and mechanical testing on lithium battery packs, including capacity testing, thermal testing, aging studies, abuse testing, ensure their safety.
4. Analyze and interpret test data, identifying any anomalies, performance issues, or potential safety risks.
5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers and product managers, to provide insights and recommendations for improving battery pack design and performance.
6. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in lithium battery technology, industry standards, and testing methodologies.
7. Contribute to the development of testing protocols and standards for lithium battery packs.
8. Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation to communicate test results and findings to stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in working with lithium battery packs, including simulation, testing, and analysis.
3. Proficiency in using simulation software such as COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent.
4. Strong knowledge of battery chemistry, cell balancing, thermal management, and safety mechanisms.
5. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to lithium batteries, such as UN 38.3, IEC 62133, and ISO 12405.
6. Experience with test equipment and instrumentation for battery testing, such as battery cyclers, thermal chambers, and data acquisition systems.
7. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in test data.
8. Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical information in a clear and concise manner.
9. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
10. Knowledge of statistical analysis and experimental design techniques is a plus.
